Read MoreKirsten Lawton competed in the Oxford Town and Gown 10k on 13 May. The race has been voted as one of the UK’s best road races as it is a fast and unique course through the closed streets of Oxford passing historic buildings and ending in the University Parks. Kirsten was delighted with her run as she clocked up a new PB – her chip time was 42:57.

Patrick Taylor was one of five Buckinghamshire athletes selected to compete at this year’s UK School Games Championships which took place at the Olympic Stadium last week. The event followed on from the BUCS Championships and is the last event there before the Olympic Opening Ceremony.
Read MoreSunday 13th was the annual Marlow 5 with 5 Vale athletes competing. With over 1200 runners, Alan Roberts (V40) came in 149th in 35:14 and Derek Peverill (V60) 269th in 37:28. The other 3 must have been on a family ticket! Louise, Jo and Pat Card(V50) all ran. Louise took it fairly easy and ran 36:46; Jo still felt the marathon in her legs finishing 386th in 39:59 and not having run for nearly a month, Pat took on a slow and easy pace finishing in 51.00. However, as now she is back training, watch out for her in her next race!

Read MoreThe Pednor 5 took place on Bank Holiday Monday, 7th May and as usual, was the main part of the Pednor 5 Challenge. Unfortunately numbers were down this year perhaps due to the weather conditions or the forthcoming Silverstone 10k. Vale had just 5 representatives so it was always going to be difficult to retain our team placings. Charlie May (27:39) and Rob Taylor (28:20) took 2nd and 4th places respectively – exactly the same pacings as last year. Henry Edwardes-Evans finished 16th in 31:39 and Alan Roberts 64th in 38:40. In the ladies race, Sue Barnes was 21st in 41.57. The men’s team finished in 3rd place. In addition to the race, two of our members took part in the Pednor 5 mile walk. Alan Roberts finished 10th in 52:26 and in the ladies race, Sue Barnes was 6th in 67:55. This gave them both medal positions in the Pednor Challenge; Alan was 3rd and Sue 2nd.
Nine of our juniors headed for the Watford Open last week and despite horrendous weather in the run up to the event, conditions had improved …. a little! Most came away happy with their performances and a collection of PBs were attained.
