Prestigious Win for Julia

Julia Austin

The Southern Counties Veterans Championships was incorporated in The Reigate Holly Run on the 20th Dec. Julia Austin finished a very creditable 7th overall in the senior ladies race. Finishing as first V45 (and incidentally beating the “younger” V35’s and V40’s) Julia claimed the Southern Counties Cross Country Title on a tough snow covered course.

And another title – this time for Jodie

Running in the colours of RAF Halton, Jodie Digby competed in the RAF national championships on 3rd Feb. Finishing in 1st place to claim the RAF title, Jodie dominated the race to win by 1m 40 sec. – a huge margin in a championship race – well done Jodie!

Can You Help?Can You Help?

We need parents to help with officiating during the summer events. This is not an onerous task and would not consume much of your time. It could consist of raking the sand pit, collecting discus or helping with measurements for example. We have a full set of crib sheets which explain each event.

We are also looking for those of you who would be interested in taking an Officials qualification.

At the moment we are stretched to get the numbers necessary at each track competition and if we cannot get enough the club may have to withdraw from competition.

The more officials that the club has the less often you will be asked to help.

So PLEASE get in touch (see Pat Card or Graham Gorman) if you would like more information. We are all volunteers and at the moment it falls to the same few adults.

Loads of pb’s and Club Records at Lee Valley Indoor Centre.

Lee Valley - Tommy Atkins

In the 200m, both Karl Goodman U17 (23.60) and Gaith Taha SM (24.99) had solid runs.

In the 400m Catherine Appleby U20 (60.19) was a pbi and broke the existing club record, as did Jordan Hadley U15 (56.67) shaving off two hundreds of a second. Gaith Taha 400m time (55.08) was a massive pb as was Tommy Atkins U17 (60.68).

The 800m brought more records with both Will and Dan Gurton breaking the existing U17 record with times of 2.01.39 and 2.03.31 respectively and Dan’s time is actually quicker than his outdoor time. Given that indoor times are usually 3-4 seconds slower than outdoor times, that is impressive, as indeed was Tommy Atkins time of 2.10.07 which is a staggering 3 seconds quicker than his outdoor time. Catherine Appleby ran a pbi in the U20W 800m race despite going through the first 200m in a ridiculously quick time of 30 secs, which would have been a National record had the pace been maintained!
