Road Race Grand Prix 2011/2012
Round 7 - 12/05/12 - Charndon 5k.
Postponed due to water logged car park. New date is Tuesday 10/07/12
Round 6 - 07/05/12 - Pednor 5.
Unfortunately overall all and VoAAC numbers were down this year perhaps due to the weather conditions or events over the weekend and the forthcoming Silverstone 10k? The Vale had just 5 representatives so it was always going to be difficult to retain our team placings.
Charlie May (27:39) and Rob Taylor (28:20) took 2nd and 4th places respectively – exactly the same placings as last year. Henry Edwards-Evans finished 16th in 31:39 and Alan Roberts 64th in 38:40. Rob picked up the 5 bonus points for the best age graded performance with Charlie 3 and Henry 1. In the ladies race, Sue Barnes was 21st in 41.57 giving her the maximum 5 age graded bonus points. The Men’s team finished in 3rd place giving all 5 finishers 1 extra bonus point each, Both Rob & Sue played their first Jokers doubling there points for the nights work.
Round 5 - 04/06/12 - Maidenhead 10.
A brilliant performance from V50 Paul Gregory (57) who finished the race in 56:06, 20th place overall from over 800 runners and 1st V50 runner. Paul has been injured so it is good to see him back in such good form; and this time makes him number 1 V55 for 2012 and 7th fastest “All Time” V55 runner on the UK Power of 10 10 mile rankings. When age graded Paul's time equates to 46:32. Richard Nerurkar's UK best ever is 46:02!
Almost fully recovered from a bout of flu, Anuradha in good running conditions won the race in a new Club Record of 49:49. This beats former GB athlete Gordon Rimmer’s 1997 time of 50:00 set at Barnet in 1977.
Others taking part were Charlie May who finished 18th in 56:00, just 22 seconds outside his PB and it was good to see newcomers Sean Wilson and Debbie Channer running so well. Sean finished 41st with a PB by almost 5 minutes (59:31) and Debbie’s PB was almost 4 minutes finishing in exactly the same time as Ian Thompson (1:09:32). Ian and Jo Card, both in training for London, ran their first 10m race. Henrik Hartmann finished not far behind Ian in 1:10:22 with the Vale contingent being completed by Steve Rooney (1:13:15) Sharon Maisey (1:17:01) and Roger Kirk (1:21:13).
Paul comfortable won the 5 bonus points for age graded with 95.38% well ahead of Anuradha's 89.50%. With Charlie 3rd.
The Ladies points went – Debbie 5, Sharon 3 and Jo 1.
Anuradha & Paul picked up 2 bonus points for their individual category wins with everyone picking up 1 bonus point for the Men's 2nd team placing.
Round 4 - 04/03/12 - Milton Keynes Half Marathon.
Despite dreadful weather conditions 2700 people took part. Debbie Channer celebrated with an excellent PB of 94:14 to finish 22nd lady and 12th V35, and Kirsten Lawton also achieved a PB with a time of 95:27 for 26th place in the ladies race (15th V35). Debbie by 0.30% just pipped Kirsten for the 5 age graded bonus points with Kirsten picking up the 3 bonus points. Both have now moved up the league to 2nd and 3rd respectfully.
The Vale Men were led home by Sean Wilson who ran a PB of 80:48 to finish in 39th place; next home was the ever dependable Mark Richards in 85:31 for 97th place. Ian Thompson ran 88:11, one place and just 11 seconds in front of Alan Roberts. Steve Rooney completed Vale runners finishing the course in 97:50 (395th place). Ian picked up the 5 age graded bonus points with Alan 3 and Sean 1.
Round 3 - 26/02/12 - Winslow 10k.
The 5th running of this event was held on a beautiful sunny morning in still, warm conditions and just perfect for personal bests...and there were 9 out of the 18 VoAAC members who took part.

Rob Taylor gained 3rd overall in a pb of 34:13. Next home were the first two Vet 40s Dave Maisey 5th with a pb of 35:44 and Andrew Rolt 6th 35:48. Dave just getting the better of Andrew on the final hill with them having raced shoulder to shoulder from the gun.

Round 2 - 26/12/11 - Boxing Day 5k
Boxing Day saw the running of our 52nd annual 5k road race through the streets of Aylesbury. The course was new this year and described as not being particularly fast due to some hill sections, sharp bends and damp slippery cobblestones.
Close to 200 runners took part with 31 of them being VoAAC members. Anuradha won the men's race in a time of 15:42 and Carolyn the ladies' in 18:13. Age group victories went to Kieran (U17), Ethan & Alice (U15), Roger (V60) and Julia (V45). Others picking up 2 bonus points for top 3 finishes in their age categories were Declan & Andrew V40), Ian & Derek (V60), Heather (V45) and Sue (V55).
The age graded bonus points of 5 went to Anuradha & Carolyn, 3 to Andrew & Julia and 1 to Declan & Heather. There were no Jokers played on this occasion.
It is reported that Anuradha had a problem on one of the tight corners in that he was going so fast he had to take it very wide!
The next event in the series is the Winslow 10k on Sunday 26th February.
Round 1 - 26/11/11 - Wolverton 5 Miles
Obviously aware of the restriction on not being allowed to play a Joker whilst leading the series Charlie and Paul played theirs and to great effect too.
The race was held round Willen Lake Milton Keynes in conditions described as windy but not too cold.
With both the Senior Men and Vet Men winning the team titles in this a prestigious and historical event everyone finishing picked up 2 extra bonus points for each team win.
On the age graded front Paul's 92.24% earned him 5 extra bonus points and decimated the competition. To put it into perspective it is a better score than Will Gurton's 800m best and Anurahda Cooray’s Marathon pb. It is a time that ranks Paul 3rd V55 on the Power of 10 UK rankings for 2011.
Whilst James (2nd U20) just pips Declan (1st V40) in to 2nd on the age grading points just as he piped him in the race too. It’s a time that places James 14th U17 on Power of 10 for 2011 and 7th on the Club’s All Time Junior (Under 20) rankings and he is still only 16!
The next race in the series is the Club's own Boxing Day 5k.
