The Final EYAL Event 5 At Hemel Hempstead 14th August July

The last match of the season was held at Hemel Hempstead and the weather was kind. We had 10 first places on the day. These were Matt Robinson with a great PB of 56.5 in the U15 boys 400m and his first outing in a club vest. Tatenda Manjengwa and Will Davison in the A and B string 1500m U15 boys. Charlie Brown shared the top position in his high jump with a jump of 1.55m. Our U15 girls did not let us down either; Alice Wright won the 800m; Donelle Arulanandam had PB’s in high jump – 1.47m and long jump – 4.85m to secure her A string victories; Sarah Ireland had a long awaited PB of 4.49m to win the B string long jump. Becky Rodnight equalled her PB in the Pole vault to get us top points. In the U17 women Rachel McCann came first in the B string triple jump and Tasha Cornwell won the B string shot.

There were many other great results on the day and we even managed to get two relay teams out. Although we were down on numbers due to the summer holidays and missing Patrick and Jordan who were competing for Bucks; we managed to climb off the bottom spot. Our 5 U17 girls came joint second so it just shows what we could do with a full team. Welcome and well done to our other new competitors – Sophie, Amy, Shannon, and Tiernan. See you next season.

Thanks as usual to my army of helpers; Martin, Simon, Graham, Jim, Catherine, Robin, Paul, Tom and Andy (and Cathy and Phil for coming to officiate but found we were over run!)
Well done everyone. The results should soon be available on the Power of 10 website but in the meantime please find them attached.

EYAL Event 4 At Bedford on Sunday 24th July

Results

After two weeks of dismal weather the sun came out and allowed for a wealth of personal and season’s bests. Sophie Dickerson had PB’s in hurdles, 100m and long jump, Sarah Ireland in the 200m and hurdles. Donelle Arulanandam had PB’s in the 200m and high jump. Her big sister, Rochelle had a PB in the 100m and an “oh so close” PB but a win with her 4.72m long jump. Helena Rowland had massive PB’s in the U13 girls 100m and 800m. Patrick Taylor had two storming wins in the 800m and 1500m. Laurie Neal, in only his second outing for the club, ran PB’s in the 100m and 200m.

Welcome to all our new young athletes – remember next year most of those athletes you were competing against will have gone up to the next age group. It was great to see you all still smiling after such stiff competition. Keep up the good work in training and your times will come tumbling down.

A huge thank you to Martin and Simon for their help with officiating and of course the Dads; Robin Ireland, Mark Taylor and Andy Neal for all their raking, spiking and collecting of shot etc. 3 hours of back to back helping with long jump and triple jump isn’t most Dads’ ideal way of spending a Sunday afternoon. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Our athletes performed brilliantly and tried their best – generally coming in the top 4 positions. With the clash with NJAL and summer holidays we were never going to field a big team so the unfortunate position of coming last was always on the cards. This did not reflect you hard work and enthusiasm. Thank you.

Next EYAL is at Hemel Hempstead on 14th August.

Please, please let me know what events you would like to do. All invited. Let’s try and field as a big a team as possible at this last one of the season.

I am on holiday the week before then so please email me what you would like to do (details on contacts page). Fixture details and timetable on EYAL page of Fixtures.

Team Manager's Note...

Photographs can be seen in the gallery.

The wind at Watford in the first EYAL of the season made for some interesting times but the sun stayed out and our athletes had lots of wins, if not as many PB’s as they would like. With a Bank Holiday (or two) we were a very depleted team so our 4th position did not reflect the effort and ability of our squad. The 6 U17 girls accounted for 98 points of our 291 total with wins in both A and B strings in the 200m, 300m, 800m and Triple Jump. Our U17 boys and U15 girls also challenged the competition. Becky Rodnight’s PB in the Pole Vault has now equalled the club record.

Welcome to our newer young athletes who all performed really well and threw themselves into the team spirit by entering more events than they originally turned up for. Every point counts and we even had a few wins that way.
Thank you to our Officials and helpers, Phillip Magnall, Martin Cornwell, Paul Wright and Julia Austin, who did a sterling job, as usual. Thank you to the parents and athletes who all provided rousing support.

Female Athlete of the Match : Alice Austin with three PB’s in 300m, discus and Triple jump.
Male Athlete of the Match: Patrick Taylor with PB’s in 200m and 400m having just come back from injury. (Aqua jogging has it’s benefits!)

Next EYAL : 12th June – Bury St Edmonds.

We were particularly short of U13 athletes (year 6 and 7) and boys in all the age groups – where are you all? Please come and support your club by competing for them

Junior Leagues Kick Off in Style for Vale Athletes

Vale of Aylesbury athletes competed in their first league competitions of the season this weekend. A few of the older juniors competed in the Men’s League on Saturday, but the majority were at the National Junior League in Hillingdon and the Eastern Young Athletes League at Watford, both on Sunday

The official times and distances for the Hillingdon meeting are not available at the time of writing, but there were so many excellent performances at Watford, we can concentrate on those.

The Watford Harriers track is known as a sheltered venue, but even there, the wind was a force to be reckoned with, particularly in the home straight and for the pole vaulters.

Sprint performances were excellent especially considering that the shorter distances, both flat and hurdles were primarily into the wind. On the flat, there were personal best times for Bartholemew Kratt (U15) in both the 100m and 200m; Helena Rowland (U13), Sophie Dickerson on (U15) and Rachel McCann (U17) in the 100m; William Davison (U17), Patrick Taylor(U17) and Abbey Winterburn (U15) in the 200m. Finally for the sprints, there were PBs for Sophie Thompson and Alice Wright who are U15, and Alice Austin (U17) in the 300m also for Patrick Taylor and Jordan Hadley both U17 in the 400m. In the 100m hurdles, Jordan Hadley (U17) achieved a new PB of 15.1s, and both Sophie Dickerson and Sarah Ireland with new PBs in the 75mH.

Across the age ranges, and in addition to those above, many of our sprinters attained top three placings including William Herd, Eliza Taswell-Fryer, Sarah Ireland, Marguerite Pope, Chloe Lamport Tasha Cornwell and twin sister Charlotte. In the hurdles, Becky Rodnight, Marguerite Pope and Libby Crawford were all in the top three of their races.

For the middle distance, another good race for Harri Kane (U13) who won his A string race in 2:40:30. William Ralston won the B string in 2:40:80 – a new PB for him. For the girls, Eliza Taswell-Fryer took 3rd spot in the U13 A string race, with Helena Rowland winning the B string with her second PB of the day in 2:58:50. Alice Wright won the U15 race and for the U17s, Libby Crawford and Rachel McCann won the A and B string races. In the 1500m, Abbey Winterburn (U15) won in 5:31:60 and for the U15 boys, Kieran Lindars was 2nd in 4:47:40 and Will Davison won the B string race in a new PB of 6:02:20.

Performance of the day probably goes to Becky Rodnight (U15) who, in tremendously windy conditions improved her Pole Vault by 10cm to 2m40cm, many congratulations! She also won the A string High Jump with a jump of 1m35cm, with Sophie Thompson winning the B string at the same height, a PB for both girls. Charlie Brown also U15 went home with two new PB performances in the High Jump – 1m.55cm and the Long Jump, 4m.33cm.

It was down to the girls to compete in the other field events with Helena Rowland and Sophie Dickerson both achieving PBs in the Long Jump and top three places going to Marguerite Pope and Charlotte Cornwell. Tasha Cornwell and Alice Austin won the A and B string Triple Jump, Alice with a PB of 7m.77cm. Charlotte Magnall achieved a season’s best in the Shot Putt coming 3rd in the A string with a season’s best throw and Charlotte Cornwell winning the B string.

Sarah Ireland and Libby Crawford both achieved personal best performances in the Javelin, Sarah winning for the U15s with a throw of 23m.23cm and Libby for the U17s with 28m05cm. In the discus, the two Charlottes, Magnall and Cornwell, both took top three places.

Last but certainly not least, the U17 girls won the 4 x 100m relay with the U15s taking 4th place in their race.
