Southern Women's League 2010The Women ’s track and field team competes in the Southern Women’s League which is open to all female members of the club from under 17 upwards. Watford, 4th SeptemberWith the 2010 track season nearing its end, the Vale of Aylesbury ladies were delighted to break two Club Records and achieve even more PBs this weekend. The team, which covers a wide age range, were competing in the Southern Women’s League held this time at Watford. Starting with field events, the Jumps Coach at the Club is a very happy man. Not only are there a couple of junior pole vaulters who are promising, but Vicky Sheldon who competes in the V45 category broke the Club Record with her jump of 1.7m on Saturday and obviously set a new personal best. Not satisfied with that, she then did the same in the triple jump with a jump of 6.64m. Sisters Zoe and Charlotte Magnall also had a splendid day. Zoe (U20) was 3rd in the A string discus and javelin with throws of 31.76m and 22.14m. Charlotte (U17) was 2nd in the B string discus, throwing 26.4m. All three throws were PBs! Elsewhere in the field, Brenda Russell (V50) and Kat Ford (V40) both took 3rd place in the A and B string hammer events. On the track, there was yet another PB for Vicky Sheldon in the 400m hurdles, and sisters Charlie and Tasha Cornwell (U17) both ran PBs in the 100m hurdles. They each took 3rd place in the A and B strings. For the sprinters, Alice Austin ran a new PB in the 400m with 2nd place in 68.5s; other fine sprint performances came from Tricia McSweeney in the 100m and Charlie Cornwell in the 200m with our 4x400 relay team finishing in 2nd place in a time of 4m38.4s. Last but certainly not least, the middle distance runners. Rosanna Iannone (SW) won both the A string 800m and 1500m races, with Lia Marshall (SW) winning the 800m B string in a new PB of 2m33.8s. Julia Austin (V45) won the 1500m B string. Finally, Charlotte Steptoe (SW) and Sophie Delderfield (SW) ran the A and B string 3000m; both finished in 2nd place and yes, both with new PBs of 11m20s and 11m48.5s respectively. A grand day out all round!
Basingstoke, 7th August, Another 2ndAn excellent effort by all resulted in another 2nd place. "A" string wins by Kathryn Ford in the hammer and a jump of 1.4m in the Pole Vault for Vicky Sheldon stopped Exeter from getting a clean sweep of all the events. Kat, Vicky and Alice got p.b.'s and Rosanna 2 season bests, Many thanks to those who came and helped. Croydon 22nd May: Women's team comes 2ndThe women's team came 2nd to Croydon on Saturday in the latest Southern Women's League match. It was a great day and the athletes all deserve a huge 'Thanks' and 'Well Done'. For particular note was Lucy Hodgins who came from bath to compete, expecting to fill two events and actually doing 5; Julie Madry who was struggling with a cold but still managed to complete the 3000m in the heat; Vicky Sheldon who has learned 3 new events (including the triple jump, shot put and 400m hurdles!) in order to fill the gaps on the team sheet; Lou Card, who stepped in at quite short notice and performed brilliantly; Alice Austin, who still finished the 4 x 100m with style even though we'd left her with far too much to do; and our throwing team of Brenda and Kat. And if Croydon hadn't had 3-time Olympian, Donna Fraser, in the team, we might just have beaten them! Julia Austin, 24th May 2010 Thurrock 24th April 2010The Women's team came 3rd in their first outing with PBs galore.
