Competitions and Event Information

Our events calendar lists all upcoming competitions and events. We are a competitive athletic club and compete in various leagues throughout the year (listed below). All club members are encouraged to compete for the club as much as possible as competitions are a great way to chart progress and development in chosen events.

A number of different competitions are available to both Under 9 and Under 11 Age Groups and are designed to be an introduction to competition for younger athletes. It is worth noting these events are inclusive of all abilities, and we encourage all athletes to compete, but the standard can be expected to be higher than that schools competitions provide. Under 9’s are not eligible to compete in the Under 11 age group.

Team Competitions The Club enters a number of Team Competitions throughout the year where transport is provided and pre- registration is done by the club. Parents are welcome to accompany their children to these events or can make their own way to the venue to support them. Teams are selected on ability and the children will be notified in advance of these events and then who has been selected to represent the club. Nominal charges to cover entry fees may be required.

These events include;

Sportshall County Championships/Trials & Sportshall inter club competitions. These are indoor events held at Leisure Centres and are centred around the childrens winter training schedule. They take place over Winter months. The Club has supplied a number of athletes to the County Team over the last 3 years who have gone on to represent Buckinghamshire in an inter county competition. The club hosts an internal Sportshall Competition in March each year where every athlete from the Kestrel groups is expected to compete.

Tom Pink Relays. This is an invitational team event held at Lee Valley Indoor Arena in London. The club has enjoyed notable success at this event over the last 4 years (see Kestrels noticeboard for press clippings). Places on the team are much sought after and teams are picked by Coaches prior to the event. This takes place in October and is the best event available to this age group.

Individual Competitions These are individual events open to all to enter who are club members. Entry is down to the individual and may require a UK Athletics Registration Number – this is the number on their club membership card. While club coaches are usually present at these events, the onus is on the individuals parents to enter their children into these competitions and to cater for their children on the day. This mirrors the experiences of most competitions as they go through the age groups and helps parents understand how the competitions are run. Parents often lift share to these events.

Quadkids events are held at Oxford (Horspath Track). These events require pre registration online and cost about £6. Children do 4 events, usually 75m, 800m, Long Jump & Vortex Throw and are awarded points for each event with overall winners being decided by points total. Vale of Aylesbury hosts the Quadkids County Championships which we hope to hold in September.

Junior Open Meetings take place at Watford on 3 weekends over the summer months. Athletes enter 3 events with the focus being on setting times and distances. It is a relaxed introduction to competition under proper track rules.
