As parents of VoAAC athletes, we wanted to make you aware of the England Athletics Athletics 365 App aimed at 11yrs+ athletes and the resource material now available for FREE download (for a limited time).
Due to the current Coronavirus Crisis, as part of their encouraging everyone to continue keeping fit at home whilst Clubs are closed, England Athletics have opened up their previously ‘paid for’ Athletics 365 Resources so that parents can now download them for FREE.
Two A365 Athlete Handbooks are available to work through with your children, colour coded activities are explained in detail with links to supporting video demonstrations (by clicking on the orange camera icon included on each page). Please note that videos were recorded before the current crisis, however, most are easily adaptable for working at home whilst in isolation, in limited space either inside or out in the garden, with limited access to equipment.
These resources can be accessed FREE via the Athletics365 App, to access these for FREE all you have to do is follow these instructions.
How to access the A365 resource:
- To find the Athletics 365 app in the Apple App Store or Google Play store, type in Athletics 365.
- You should then see a red icon with Athletics 365 written on it. Download this app to your phone or tablet device. Please note this app is only available for Apple and Android tablets and phones at the moment.
- Click the Athletics 365 icon to open the app.
- The first screen you will come to is the home page, click on the Athletics 365 for Athletes and Parents section, bottom left of the screen.
- This should take you to a purple screen showing you two documents that you can download for FREE for a limited time, these are the Athlete’s Handbook 1 and 2.
The handbooks are designed with young people in mind. You will need a wifi connection to access the supporting video demonstrations for each exercise.
Top tips and advice for parents when using the handbooks:
- Fun environment – Create a fun environment so that your children will enjoy taking part and learning.
- Questions – Create opportunities for children to learn, ask your children questions.
- Creative Games – Let children use their imagination, encourage them to create their own rules, get involved with them, let them think up warmups etc.
- Cross learning – incorporate Arts & Crafts, Maths, English and Science etc – ie think about the Olympic games, before doing the exercise can you sing a country’s national anthem, or make a flag that you can walk around with, create a fun environment again.
- Effort – Praise effort levels. It’s really important to praise your child’s effort levels and get a positive message across to your children.
