Club training nights are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00pm. The majority of our squads train outdoors at Stoke Mandeville Stadium all year round, but during the winter (October – March) we arrange indoor facilities to accommodate our younger groups. Some squads also train at the weekend.
Before and after each training session, the athletes are taken through a number of stretches and warm up drills by coaches to be ready for training, and they warm down after a training session which helps to prevent injuries.
We offer a variety of training squads which are co-ordinated by a number of UKA qualified coaches

Kestrels (under 11 years)
The Kestrels group consists of young athletes (8 to 10 year-olds).
Athletes are introduced to the disciplines of track and field athletics, with an emphasis on having fun. Coaching is based around the principles of Athletics 365 and the Sportshall athletic programmes, which are both multi-event young people development programmes.
The athletes are introduced to the fundamental skills required to compete in every discipline; the focus isn’t on how fast you can run or how far you can throw or jump, but on technique to ensure a firm base from which to develop.
Kestrels sessions are at 7.00-8.00pm, on Tuesday or Thursday. All Kestrel Athletes meet by the Sport England sign, trackside for registration when training outdoors (April to October) at the track. During Winter months (October to March) Kestrels train indoors in the sportshall, and on the track according to weather conditions, with a focus mainly on Sportshall athletics. There is also an emphasis on Cross Country training during the winter months, with the club entering an u11 team into the Chiltern League. There is an expectation for Kestrels athletes to compete for the club in the Chiltern League, with t-shirts awarded to all athletes competing in four-or-more of the five league matches each year.
