The Southern Athletics League is the area track and field league for Clubs in the SEAA region who wish to compete in joint (male & female) teams.
Fixtures 2024
Saturday 18 May
Saturday 15 June
Sunday 14 July
Saturday 17 August
Saturday 7 September (reserve date)
How it works
The Club must enter two athletes for each event, A and B string (excluding relays). For field events and track over 800m, A and B strings compete together, but are scored separately. The winner of each event scores 5 points down to 1 point for the 5th placed athlete. A & B string scores are added together on the completion of the meeting to give a total score for the day. The competing Clubs are then ranked on this score and given 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 league points which are added together after the fifth and final match to determine final league position.
Events
With one or two exceptions, the timetable remains the same for each fixture. Please click on the following link for a schedule of the 2016 timetable of events for each meeting in the League. South Athletic League timetable
Age Restrictions
The league is open to athletes in the U17 age group (Year 10) and above. There is no upper age limit. Many younger athletes consider it ideal experience to make the transition from Junior to Senior athletics.
An Athlete’s Personal View:
“Despite running well in a 5000m last year, I was lapped by another athlete who won in less than 16 minutes. So you might think the competition will be poor as it is the bottom division, but that is not necessarily the case. Infact, the division records are impressive. Please consider running for Vale! “
