CHILTERN LEAGUE MATCH 4 – 14TH JANUARY
A very wet and muddy course awaited our runners in Milton Keynes on Saturday for the 4th round of the Chiltern League season. Every athlete who completed their respective course deserved a pat on the back and a well-earned bath after the conditions made it very difficult to stay on your feet, let alone cross the finish line!
The senior men had a 12 strong contingent out with Jamie Pugh leading the team home in 56th with Scott Ramsell one second and one place behind. Tim Jones was the 5th M60 to finish. Two U17 men and 4 U15 boys represented the club with Archie Lynch first home for the U17’s in 20th and Emile Jansen Van Rensburgh first Vale athlete in for the U15’s. The U13 boys race saw 6 athletes competing for the Vale with Zachary Honour crossing the line in 26th and a fantastic run from Luca Dolan saw him finish 4th in the U11’s race.
Alice Rolfe was the star in the senior women’s team taking a very respectable 24th place. Sue Barnes finished 4th F65 and Vicky Sheldon was 7th F55. We only had one athlete in the combined U17/U20 women race with Lucy Cuthbert finishing 38th overall and 33rd U17. There was a strong turnout for the U15 girls with Lucinda McRonald leading our team of 6 home in 17th place. Gabriella Cheung ran well for 17th position in the U13 girls race and Penny Edwards giving the team its other top 10 finish of the day with 10th in the U11 girls race.
Going into the final match in Beford (Keysoe Equestrian Centre) next month (February 11th) the U11 boys sit 3rd with the U13 girls, U15 girls and U20 men in 5th in their respective age groups. As a team we sit 10th overall.
Dennis Orme Trophy
This trophy recognises a team’s turnout rate compared to the previous season and aims to promote competition retention and encourage increased participation from clubs in the league. As a club we currently sit 3rd in the Dennis Orme Trophy standings (behind Dacorum AC and Watford Harriers) going into the final match. If we want to win this trophy we will need as many athletes running at the final match as possible!
