Victory for Dolan in final Chiltern League match of the season

The final Chiltern League match of the season took place on Saturday at Keysoe Equestrian Centre just north of Bedford. 41 athletes turned out to represent the Vale on the day and there were some encouraging results across the age groups.

The strongest turnout was again in the senior men where 10 of our athletes were led home by Kieran Lindars in a fantastic 7th place. Tim Jones was 3rd in the M60 category and Aaron Ward was 9th U20 across the line. Archie Lynch was the sole club representative in the U17 men, coming home in 17th position. Lucas Garner (34th) and Joseph Storey (45th) ran well in the U15 boys race. Five athletes took part in the U13 boys race with Zachary Honour leading them home in 21st place.

Luca Dolan stole the show in the U11 boys taking a superb win to go with three 4th’s and a 2nd place from his first four outings. Luca was ably backed up by Zac Williams (13th), Bali Horten (22nd), Angus McRonald (28th), Devon Powell (35th) and Chibuikem Eke (38th) to mean that the team finished 3rd on the day and also 3rd overall across the season.

Daisy Goldhagen was the first Vale athlete home for the senior women’s team finishing in 75th position. Sue Barnes finished 4th F65 and Vicky Sheldon was 6th F55. As with the previous match we only had one athlete in the combined U17/U20 women race with Iona Esslemont finishing 51st and 43rd U17.

Lucinda McRonald had another great run with a top 10 finish in the U15 girls race (9th.) Gabriella Cheung had another solid run in the U13 girls race with a 19th placed finish and the U11 girls were led home by Emily Cook in 20th.

Individual Overall Standings

The results above had significant impacts on how the individual placings took shape for the season. To qualify, athletes had to have completed at least 4 of the 5 races during the season. The standout performers for the club were Luca Dolan who claimed a bronze medal in the U11 boys, Tim Jones who was 2nd in the M60 category, Sue Barnes for her 2nd in the F65 category, Lucinda McRonald who was 9th in the U15 girls and Vicky Sheldon who was 8th in the F55 category. Just missing out on top 10 finishes were Gabriella Cheung in the U13 girls (11th) and Zachary Honour in the U13 boys (13th.)

Dennis Orme Trophy

This trophy recognises a team’s turnout rate compared to the previous season and aims to promote competition retention and encourage increased participation from clubs in the league. As a club we finished 2nd in the Dennis Orme Trophy standings behind Dacorum AC. It was a good effort by all.
