The Club has grown considerably over the last few years and we are always looking for new volunteers to ensure the club continues to run efficiently. Please speak to any of our coaches or volunteers on a training night if you want to get involved or contact us through our website.
Leading Athletics Workshop
A two-part webinar-based practical workshop (not a qualification) designed for anyone (aged 14+ years) who is interested in an introduction to the skills needed in leading athletics activities for young athletes. Perfect for older athletes helping with our Kestrels sessions, or parents who want to take their first steps into volunteering and coaching. We recommend our Parent Helpers attend this workshop. Please discuss with us.
Coaching Assistant
Designed as an introduction to providing safe and enjoyable athletic experiences for young people aged 8+. The course covers warm-ups, the basic principles and underpinning principles of running, jumping, throwing, cool downs, and how to organise safe and fun sessions for a mixed ability group of athletes.
Providing you are committed to coaching at the club on training nights, we will send you on a course to attain your Coaching Assistant qualification through England Athletics, which the club will fully fund. See full details of the Coaching Assistant qualification and the two course options (practical option or online option) here.
We recommend you stay at this level assisting one of our senior coaches for 6-12 months so you can gain experience and expertise from senior coaches.
Athletics Coach
Designed to support coaches working with athletes in our Development Groups, up to our Event Groups, the course advocates a multi-event approach in the development of athletes. If you are enjoying working as a Coaching Assistant and would like to progress further, please discuss with us, you can move onto this course.
Who should go on this course? Anyone who has completed the Coaching Assistant Award and feels ready to take the next step to managing their own coaching groups.
How many days will it take? This four-day course consists of two face to face contact days, online modules and knowledge test in an event specific discipline (you have the option to choose one of the following Speed, Endurance, Jumps or Throws), followed by a final in-person assessment.
What will I learn? How to apply the fundamental principles of running, jumping and throwing and applying this knowledge over a series of sessions to help technically develop groups of athletes. You will learn how to coach running, jumping and throwing activities and observe correct technical aspects.
