CORONAVIRUS – COVID-19
The health, wellbeing and safety of our members and our people is our first priority.
While we’re very much aware and understand our parents and members being concerned about Covid-19, we want to reassure you that we are following the advice that the government is currently giving the public. Sport England’s current advice is that staying active is an important part of staying healthy and protecting against the risk of coronavirus (Covid-19).
We ask that members and parents take these steps, which are consistent with government advice:
- Please do not come to training or our events if you are unwell.
- If you cough or sneeze carry tissues with you and cover your mouth and nose with a tissue (or a sleeve or into the crook of an elbow if there are no tissues, but not your hands) when coughing or sneezing. See Catch it, Bin it, Kill it.
- Put used tissues in the bin straight away.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water often – use hand sanitizer gel if soap and water are not available. See hand washing guidance.
- Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean (including after touching a surface which could be contaminated, such as a doorknob, toilet seat or after shaking hands).
Athletes and runners are entitled, should they wish, not to shake hands or have any other form of physical contact with their opponents or officials
If you are considering attending training, or athletics or running event in any capacity and have recently returned to the UK from overseas, particularly the affected parts of the world, we would like to draw your attention to the following advice from the UK Government.
The government has published an action plan to contain the possible spread of the virus. This advises:
There is presently no rationale to close or cancel sporting events, but this may change as the situation evolves. Anyone with flu-like symptoms should avoid the risk of spreading their infection, whatever that infection maybe, by staying at home and recovering.
As you will appreciate this is a fast-moving fluid situation. We continue to work and take guidance from our partners and affiliate representative bodies.
