Vale came away from this years’ County Championships with County Champions in six different events, there were also a host of silver and bronze medals together with personal best performances and topped off with a Club Record.
In the Field events, Vale’s U20 age group were very strong indeed. We have two County Champions in the Discus; for the ladies, Eleanor Taylor-Newman won with a throw of 30.30m, more than 10m ahead of the athlete in 2nd place, and Gianni Aquilino won for the men with a 38.54m throw which was a new PB. In the jumps, TJ Bartley dominated with two winning performances. He won the Long Jump with a PB of 6.41m and the Triple Jump with a jump of 13.53m.
Silver and bronze medals in the field events went to Oscar Strange and Nicolas Moss in the U13 and U15 Javelin (22.51m and 34.05m); Bronwyn Reed in the Shot Putt (7.33m); Campbell Williams in the U17 Long Jump (5.67m); Sophie Dickerson and Donnelle Arulanandam who were 2nd and 3rd in the U20 Long Jump (5.10m and 4.96m respectively) – Donnelle also won a silver in the Triple Jump (10.68m); Sarah Ireland in the Javelin (26.68m) and Brenda Russell in the Hammer (24.8m).
On the track, our youngsters were also in great form. Gold medals went to Tyanna Dale in the U15 100m (13.28s) event (13.28s) and another double winning performer in Kitty Shepherd Cross who won the U15 800m in 2:19:6 which has been confirmed as a new Club Record. She also won the 1500m in 4:52:6 which was over 12 seconds ahead of the 2nd placed athlete.
For the sprints, in addition to Tyanna’s gold, there were silver or bronze medals for Korben Fenty and Sophie Dickerson in the 100m; Tafara Shuro and Tyanna Dale in the U15 200m and Alice Rolfe in the U17 300m.
Middle distance brought medals too with Rosanna Evens and Alice Wright 2nd and third in the 800m.
Heats and finals brought too many PBs to mention but many congratulations to all those who took part. We can’t all be medal winners, but it is clear that a lot of hard work was done by our athletes to take part putting everything they learn in training into practise.
