A collection of Vale athletes were amongst over 800 runners who completed the Maidenhead Easter Ten on a beautifully sunny Good Friday morning on the roads in and around Maidenhead.
The race has been taking place for over 60 years, and this year Vale had a good showing in the men’s category and although not the first Vale athlete to complete the course, Paul Gregory in particular should be very happy with his performance. Paul finished the race in 19th position overall but first in the Vet 60 category; his time of 57:43 was faster than all of the V50 runners. Paul’s time ranks him No2 V60 in UK at this distance in 2016 and No5 V60 in the all-time records.
First Vale athlete to finish was Charlie May who was in 13th place exactly 1 minute quicker than Paul in 56:43 – not a PB but over a minute faster than his time at the same event last year. Third Vale athlete back home was Dave Maisey who was in 52nd place in a time of 1:00:51. Sean Wilson, Mark Richards, Henry Edwardes-Evans, Alan Roberts and Roger Kirk made up the men’s squad competing, all of who put in good solid performances.
We only had two ladies competing, both of whom ran well. Chloe Oldfield continued her strong season with a run of 1:01:00; not quite a PB, but a good run nevertheless which put her in 5th position in the ladies race. Charlotte Steptoe also had a good race finishing 18th in the ladies race in a time of 1:06:50.
