Two Vale athletes competed in the Watford Open meeting this week. One competed in the first 1500m race of the evening. The other competed in the 16th and last 1500m race of the evening. A reminder to all Vale athletes; these Open Meetings can be a perfect opportunity to improve your personal best times and take place every two weeks through to September.  A link to the schedule is shown at the end of this report.

Anna’s coach Harry Czapski reports on this weeks’ event ‘In the first race Anna Cuthbert was running her first ever 1500m. The conditions were almost perfect at 7:30pm when Anna started off near the back of the field. By the 800m stage she had moved up nearer the front and went through in 2:56 a PB for 800m. At 1200m, her time was 4:26, a PB for 1200m. Anna eventually finished in 4th place in a time of 5:32.94. When asked by Ann Taylor, what time were you looking for tonight, Anna answered “under 6 minutes”. Job done then!

In the last 1500m race of the night and in much colder conditions, Patrick Taylor, ran 3:56.8, within half a second of his personal best. After the race, Patrick said that he just didn’t feel right from the start and the last 700m were really tough. Sooner or later, I think Patrick will run his perfect 1500m for this season in a time considerably lower than his current PB’.
