Congratulations to Julia Austin who missed last year’s Veteran’s Championships (EVAC) through injury; this year she came back strong, fit and ready to race.
The event took place in Luton on 29 June with a far bigger and more accomplished field of fellow athletes than is normally the case. Heather Fallaize was unable to compete due to injury but was chief cheerleader and coach for Julia who was extremely grateful.
Although disappointed not to get sub 2mins 50s for the 800m, she was pleased with her 1500m where she got a season’s best of 5.40. Julia said, “I won the silver medal in both events. At 17.5, my 100m time was 0.1s slower than my season’s best and current V50 club record, so I still have some work to do to bring that down to the sub-17secs that I would like. However, Vicky Sheldon may well give me some competition on that! It was great weather for running and it felt really good to be running against athletes of my own age for once and really feel able to compete”.
