On Sunday 11th October, a team of 13 Vale athletes headed to Lee Valley Indoor Arena for the first Minithon of the season. All athletes chose 3 events to compete in receiving points for each and medals were awarded based on the points collected over each athlete’s events. The medals were presented by GB International Shaleyna Oscan-Clarke.
It was another successful trip for the Club. In the boys’ events, Ryan Morrell won gold in the U11 competition; this was nearly matched by his brother Sean who picked up silver in the U13 event. Not to be outdone, the girls were on form in their competitions too. Emilia Rock set the standard winning a silver medal in the U11 competition and was joined by Mary Drewett and Ffion Mabey who both won silver medals in the U11 category. Mary produced the performance of the day winning a very competitive 600m in 2min 2secs, while Ffion was competing at U11 for the first time. These 5 athletes were joined at Lee Valley by Corben Atterbury, Logan Davies, Keri Armitage, Zoe Armitage, Joel Hansen, Cai Rouch, Lucy Cuthbert and James Redding. This was a really good turnout for the first indoor competition of the season and all 13 can be very proud of their performances throughout the day.
The next Minithon is on Saturday 12th December – details are on the Kestrels noticeboard.
