Harri and FredThe Coombe Hill race took place last weekend in very warm running conditions.  The 6k race which starts at The Shoulder of Mutton in Wendover of course includes the punishing 190m hill climb, known locally as The Front, which leads up to the Coombe Hill Monument, made tougher still by the warm conditions.

There was a good turnout this year with 188 runners completing the course, and the winner, Ben Sutherland who runs for Wycombe Phoenix crossed the line in 23:42.  Vale’s team were not far behind with Dave Maisey taking second spot in 23:54 and Ben Davis third in 23:59.  Vale’s Harri Kane was first Junior to complete the course finishing in 5th spot in 24:23.  It was a double celebration for the Kane family as younger brother Fred won the Junior Fun Run putting the power on over the last hill section to finish a well-timed run over the 2k distance.

We would like to say a huge thank you to The Shoulder of Mutton who, yet again allowed us to use their pub as our base.  They very generously gave a free half pint of beer to runners who produced their race number.  Further thanks to The National Trust who were very supportive in providing this year’s water station.  50p has been donated for every runner to The National Trust and will be spent at the property on vital conservation and access work.  Last but certainly not least, thanks to the marshalls for their sterling work.
