COPENHAGEN MARATHON : 2 RECORDS AND A PB! – MARCH 2014.

Anuradha Cooray travelled to Copenhagen this weekend to compete in the World Half Marathon Championships. It was always going to be a tough competition with so many of the world’s elite runners taking part, but an essential part of his campaign for the Commonwealth Games later this year in Glasgow AND THE Asian Games in Korea.

Cooray did himself, his country and his Club proud. He finished the race in 65:20 which is a new personal best for him; a new National Record and a Club Record too. Both Anuradha and his coach Nick Taylor were delighted with his performance; Nick commented that had it not been for a niggle in his hamstring towards the end of the race, the time would have been even better.

Cooray’s fitness and abilities are amazing; everyone at the Club knows how committed he is to his training. The conditions in Copenhagen were good; reasonably warm with a slight breeze and a fast course, nevertheless, having just celebrated his 35th birthday, he ran his fastest half marathon for nine years! Club Chairman Graham Gorman was delighted: “Cooray works very hard and is a superb role model for the younger athletes at the Club. This was a great performance for him and we are all extremely proud of him”.
