Our Club’s annual awards presentation has taken place to honour those members who have excelled in the 12 months to 31 August 20145. The awards cover all disciplines of our sport and those who help us to make it happen.
We were joined by guest speaker Ojie Edoburun from Shaftesbury Harriers who is just 18 years old and an exceptionally talented sprinter. He won a silver medal at the World Youth Games in 2013 and is No 7 in the European Rankings for 2014. He also made the finals of the World Junior Games this year and is 5th fastest UK junior of all time at 100m. Odie was voted a great success after talking to our athletes about his career past, present and future goals which was very impressive, particularly as there was a large contingent of our junior athletes in the audience.
Jess Hunter was again awarded Female Club Athlete of the year after another fantastic season including a silver medal at the ESAA Championships, and Christian von Eitzen won Boy Club Athlete of the year after a superb season running in both the UK and Germany. Senior Athlete of the Year was Anuradha Cooray who recently finished 6th in the marathon at the Asian Games with a PB at the age of 36. He has also qualified for the World Championships in Beijing.
Coaches of the year went to the two Pauls who have made Thursday night Kestrels a great success. The Dave Humphreys Award went to Sophie Delderfield and the male winner was Christian von Eitzen for his 800m performances in 2013. A full list of award winners is attached here. AWARDS LIST 2014
