We are delighted to announce that our President, Peter Hoare, is a worthy winner of the 2014 England Athletics South East Volunteer Award for Services to Athletics following nominations by the athletics community for those who deserve recognition. Peter’s award is for individuals whose lifelong contribution to the sport whether coaching, officiating, managing, administering or otherwise supporting is worthy of celebration.

His contribution to the Club is outstanding; he has coached for many years, predominantly in the 200m/400m disciplines, and worked with those who have competed at the English Schools Championships. Come rain or shine, he is always at the track or weights room working with his athletes; he is also the Club’s ‘go to’ man when it comes to facilities having helped to repair, paint and maintain the Club hut for a number of years.

The Award was presented by Amy Frith, an England Athletics’ Club and Coach Support Officer. Amy, who knows our Club well having worked with us for some years, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to present Peter with this award. His commitment, dedication and passion for the sport has had a terrific impact on athletics in Aylesbury and Buckinghamshire and on the individuals he has coached over the past 30+ years.

Not only has Peter made a significant contribution to the Vale of Aylesbury AC, he has also been a valuable member of the England Athletics Local Coach Development Programme, sharing his knowledge and experience of coaching sprints events at workshops across the South East Region. Peter has achieved many things in the sport as an athlete, coach, official and volunteer – I’m delighted that he has been recognised with this prestigious award.”

A modest man of few words, Peter declared that he is thrilled and a little embarrassed at the award, but hasPeterHoare_award_2014-10-14 no idea who had nominated him.
