Our Awards Night for the 2013 season was held at Aylesbury Tennis Club and opened with a relaxed interview with our own International Olympian, Anuradha Cooray. One of the teenage athletes commented that it was so good to hear Anuradha talking openly and candidly about his life and how he discovered he had a talent for running. He talked about growing up in a very poor country, his Army career and arrival in the UK, through to finding the Club and ultimately joining up with Nick Taylor as coach; a partnership which has worked well for several years now.
Our athlete said; ”I thought I knew a lot about Anuradha, but it was fascinating to hear him explain his background and especially how he prepares for the big races. He was brilliant!”
The Awards presentations then took place; every award being important. Jess Hunter was awarded Female Club Athlete of the Year for her outstanding season and Male Club Athlete went to Christian von Eitzen who had an astonishing track season last year both on a national and international level. Senior athletes of the year were Sophie Delderfield who continues to be in superb form and the ever consistent Anuradha Cooray.
This year’s Coach of the Year was Jumps Coach Ruban Arulanandam who also works with the Induction Squad. Mark Fallaize received the Dave Humphreys Award and the John Gibson Endurance Award went to Sophie Delderfield.
