Congratulations to Alan Roberts who has recently returned from tough competitions in Turkey and Austria.
Alan represented Great Britain in the European Masters Track and Field Championships held over 10 days in Izmir, Turkey. He competed in the 800m, 1500m, 5k, 10k and 5k walk but elected not to take part in the 3k Steeplechase. Happy with his performances across the range, the final day was Marathon day! Alan describes the event as “run in a torturous 36 degrees where survival, not time was the main aim of the event”! Alan was 13th over 50 to cross the line, but stepped down two age groups to be part of the 3 man over 40 GB team which won the European Bronze medal!
It was then off to Austria where he took part in the Masters World Mountain Running Championships near Innsbruck. Alan was 5th GB runner home in the over 50 event competing for GB “B”. He considered it a personal achievement to finish ahead of one of his GB teammates who is a more experienced fell runner. It took just over 100 minutes to climb 1200 metres over a distance of 11.7k. Below is the profile of the event.
