Four of Vale’s Junior athletes have been selected by compete for their Counties at next weekend’s English Schools Athletics Association’s Championships to be held at The Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Three of them are representing Buckinghamshire, Alfred Mawdsley in the junior discus; Jess Hunter the senior 100m hurdles and Patrick Taylor 800m. Alfred is currently ranked 6th in the UK at his event, and Jess 5th in hers so can go to the Championships with a lot of confidence. Sadly this will be Patrick’s last English Schools’ as he will be off to University in the autumn. He has competed every year since Year 9 and has medalled twice, bronze in 2010 and silver in 2012. “It’s a shame my time at these Championships has to end, but I have some great memories. I am realistic as I have spent a lot of time injured in the last year but will be doing my best to come always with another medal. I also have to say a hug thank you to Team Managers Caroline Bird and Nicky Gahagan who are always 100% supportive.”
The final Vale athlete is Christian von Eitzen who will be competing for Oxfordshire in the 800m. It is his first year as a Senior having won the Intermediate competition last year, but after a great season so far, he is determined to be up amongst the leaders even though he is a year younger.
We wish our athletes well; work hard and do your best – nobody will ask any more.
