The London Marathon 2015 seems to be one to remember. Not only did our athletes perform well, but they all agree that the crowd support this year was phenomenal …. and the t-shirts pretty good too! As usual a team of Vale supporters zig zagged around the London streets to cheer our runners on, and they were not disappointed as many personal best times were improved.
The first Vale athlete to cross the line was of course Anuradha Cooray, competing for Sri Lanka as part of the Elite race.
Our performances in the main race were fantastic and special mention has to be made of Richard Bazeley who has been running very well over the past few months. His time of 3:03:57 was a PB by over 40 minutes!
Rob Taylor, running for a local charity, just missed out on a PB but after a long spell of knee and calf problems was delighted with his 2:57:32 finish as were Ben Jackson (3:34:03) and Will Tuckett (3:09:57). In the V50 category, Steve Rooney will be pleased with a 3:22:49 finish which is a PB by more than 10 minutes and Alan Roberts’ time of 3:14:55 is his fastest marathon since 2009; it also gets him a ‘good for age’ place for the event in 2016 and 2017 along with Richard and Rob.
Our sole lady competitor this year was Charlotte Steptoe who has also been running well lately. She had a great race finishing in 3:02:22 which is a PB by more than 7 minutes.
