There was a strong Vale presence at Lee Valley Athletics Centre for the Minithon competition on 28 February. Clubs from across the South of England were represented, and it was a very successful day for our junior athletes amidst strong competition.

Each child selected three events and Vale coaches said: “we are so proud of these athletes, each one of them gave their all, and it is fantastic for them to come away with medals in both individual events and age groups too.”

Gold medals for age groups went to Emilia Rock who won in the Girls Year 4 & 5 Competition and Ffion Mabey for the Girls Year 3 Competition. There were also two silver medals for Ashleigh Sidney in the Girls Year 6 & 7 Competition and Logan Davies in the Boys Year 4 & 5 Competition.

The individual medals went to Quinlan Bartlett won the Shot Putt with a mighty 5.20m throw; his nearest rival threw 4.44m. Ffion Mabey won the 60m and 200m; her 200m time of 36.2s was over 2 seconds ahead of the 2nd placed athlete. Emilia Rock and Logan Davies both won their 200m events and Ashleigh Sidney won her 60m race.

Although not medal winners, coaches made special mention of Anna Cuthbert and Hannah Mabey who both ran 600m and were very impressed with the way both girls were able to pace their running. They also commented that Sean Morrell in hurdles and Rebecca Mabey in high jump were unlucky to miss out on winning their events.
