Squad and coaches 2014The Tom Pink Relays took place this weekend at Lee Valley. Against fierce competition, Vale athletes came away with both team and individual medals and one relay team equalled a British record.

Relay races include trying to beat the times of some of our great distance runners with “Keeping up with Paula”, “Chasing Kelly” and “Chasing Steve” and on the field, some of the Sportshall events are contested.

Forty six Vale athletes in the U11 and U13 category took part in the event this year and were in fantastic form against 27 teams from all over South East England.

In the relay heats, Vale’s U11 boys’ team equaled the British Record for the 1000m Relay finishing in 2:38:1 qualifying for the first of their two finals and missing the record by 0.05 of a second! In the final they finished in silver medal position. Undaunted, they then took gold in the hurdles relay; two brilliant performances. The relay team members were Aaron Glover, Aaron Taylor, Curtis Brown, Ben Ince and Logan Davies.

The icing on the cake is that Vales athletes also came away with 7 individual medals. In the U11 category, there were three bronze medals for Aaron Glover in Javelin; Keri Armitage in Caber Throw and Isaac Johns for Highland Step.  Four medals also went to U13s, Silver to Callum Neary for the Long Jump; bronze to Lashayah Byfield in Weight for Distance and two medals to Nick Moss who won bronze at Weight for Height and silver at Weight for Distance.
