This year’s YDL matches got underway with a lower age group match at Twickenham on May 2nd.  Congratulations to all those who took part; Pat Card reports that a good time was had by all and that a lot of our younger athletes competed, many of them for the first time.

A majority of the children came away from the day with personal best times or distances and Pat was very complimentary of all efforts especially as a lot of the athletes are in the first year of their age groups.  It would be good to mention all of the athletes but as there are so many of them, apologies that this report will focus only on those finishing in the top 3.   However, a full list of the results is available on the link to Power of 10.

In the sprints, two of our non-scoring U13 athletes ran great races, Carmen Williams won the 75m for the girls in 11.5s and Joel O’Reilly was 2nd in the boys 100m with a time of 14.7s.  Our U15 boys dominated the 100m; Lee Richards won the A string (12.1s) and Tyler Savage the B (12.6).  Erin Bunce was 3rd in the U15 girls 100m (14.7s).

The 200m was also a strong discipline for us.  In the U13s, Curtis Brown was 2nd in 29.3s, but in the U15 races, the girls made a clean sweep with Tyanna Dale winning the A string in 28.2s and Annabel Ralston the B string in 30.2.  Sam Mohammed was 2nd in the U15 boys’ race in 26s.  The 300m saw placings for two U15 athletes, Luke Young 3rd in the B string (49.3s) and Katie Jones 2nd for the girls A string (47.1s).

The boys’ 4x100m relay teams in both age groups were both placed; the U13s finished in 2nd with a time of 57.9s and the U15s 3rd in 50.14s.  The U15 girls were 2nd in the 4 x 300m relay in 3:16:0.
