A chilly Oxford saw the second Quadkids Competition of the track season on Sunday 10th May. A Team of 11 athletes from the Kestrels took part, a good turnout, from the girls but sadly only 2 boys entered over 2 age groups. That said, there were some brilliant performances from Vale youngsters in what was a very good standard of competition involving of 80 athletes from various Clubs; all taking part in 4 events and earning points for each performance. Medals were awarded for the winners of individual disciplines across the age groups, and the overall winners.

Two U9 girls competed for Vale; Ffion Mabey finished 5th overall her best performance coming in the 600m with a time of 2m 24s. Lucy Cuthburt competed in her first competition of the season and finished an encouraging 13th overall and again her best showing was in the 600m.

Vale girls in the U11 events gave some fantastic performances! Emilia Rock won the Gold Medal for the fastest 600m in the section – her time of 2m 02s was the second fastest of the entire competition; she finished 6th overall. To continue the strong showing, Vicky Yates set a new PB in the Long Jump and was 8th overall, followed closely by Kate Abrams who made it 3 Vale girls in the Top 10 coming 10th, and putting in consistent performances in all of her events. Just outside the Top 10 were Rocharne Manning and Iona Royce who finished 12th & 13th respectively again showing consistency in all events. Ami Raynor made her competitive debut for the Club finishing a creditable 21st setting a number of PB’s and she was joined by Keri Armitage who finished in 22nd place with a huge PB for 600m.

In the Boys under 11 Ethan Perry was joined by Freddie Kane. Freddie finished in 12th place overall which included 6th place in the 600m in 2m 10s and Ethan in 20th place, again showing great potential over 600m just missing out on a new PB.

There are numerous boys at the Club whom coaches know would have done extremely well at the competition and the turn out from the boys side of things was disappointing – we need the boys competing and showing off what they can do – so well done and thanks to Freddie & Ethan and a big well done to our girls.
