Our Men’s Vet team won team gold at the County Cross Country Championships this weekend. The event was held at Hughenden Park, High Wycombe in atrocious conditions. The undulating parkland was saturated, not helped by the course crossing a stream and rain falling throughout the day.
The team comprised Rob Taylor, Marty Summerfield, Andrew Rolt and David Maisey, who beat Milton Keynes by an aggregate 16 minutes over the 12k course which crossed the stream 8 times. Along with Sean Wilson and Mark Richards, they were also part of the Senior Men’s team which won bronze in the Senior race. Vale’s super-vet, Tim Kelly, was second in the 8-km Vet 60 event.
Vale’s Ladies Vet team also came away with medals, taking the silver on their 8k course. The team comprised Julia Austin, Heather Fallaize and Sharon Maisey. Julia and Heather were also part of the Senior Team, along with Charlotte Steptoe, who won bronze in the Senior event.
For the Juniors, our best performance of the day came from Alice Wright who finished 2nd in the girls U17 event, Eliza Taswell-Fryer was 5th. Max Perry (U13) finished 3rd in his race, pipped on the line, and in the U17 race, Harri Kane finished 6th.
A thank you must be given to the organisers and especially the marhsalls who did a sterling job throughout the day in terrible weather.
